Appalachian State has canceled their home football game scheduled for Saturday against Liberty due to damage caused by Hurricane Helene.
In a press release, App State said the hurricane has caused “severe impacts to App State, the town of Boone and surrounding areas.”
The game will not be rescheduled.
Helene, which made landfall in Florida on Thursday night as a Category 4 hurricane, is producing “historic and catastrophic flooding over portions of the Southeast and Southern Appalachians,” according to the National Hurricane Center.
Close to 300 roads were closed and over 100 swift-water rescues had occurred so far in North Carolina, according to Gov. Roy Cooper. He added that the storm, particularly in western North Carolina, is causing life-threatening flash flooding, numerous landslides and power outages from downed trees.
