When it comes to tubes, 'less is more' for Albéa

In the ever-evolving journey towards a more sustainable packaging, Albéa Tubes stand at the forefront, relentlessly working to lower plastic use and consumption in their tube solutions. In 2022, the company launched ‘EcoFusion Top’, the most advanced solution in weight reduction on the market paired with a disruptive design showing the material saving: To reduce the plastic quantity by lightening the tube, Albéa’s R&D teams removed a component by merging the head and the cap, thus allowing more than 80% weight reduction compared to standard head+cap.

At this year’s Paris Packaging Week, the company introduced new EcoTop designs featuring a higher height, thus offering beauty and health care brands an alternative to the ultimate EcoFusion Top and serving their specific needs and brands’ identity best. For these four additions to the product range, the R&D teams of Albéa Tubes are working on new diameters, D50, D35, D30, as well as on an oval version that will all be launched this year. The newcomers EcoSlim Top and OvalSlim Top provide weight reduction from 60% to 75% in comparison to standard flip-top or screw caps. These innovative caps are designed to meet the growing demands of brands seeking more responsible solutions without compromising their visual identity and design.

The perfect blend of innovation and sustainability

The EcoTop family focuses on reducing the weight of the full tube package, a crucial factor in minimizing plastic use. By offering lightweight solutions made from mono-material HDPE thus enabling their recyclability, Albéa Tubes support brands in their sustainability goals by aligning with upcoming regulations like the recently adopted Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) without renouncing to functionality or design. In addition, the recycling-ready caps are designed to be e-commerce ready and compliant with ISTA-6 Amazon requirements.

A consumer-focused design

Beyond the purely responsible aspect of the EcoTop range, the solutions can be opened with just one hand, thanks to a graspable finger recess area offering practicality and ergonomics that can make life easier for users such as senior citizens or people suffering from arthritis.

Reducing plastic use through weight reduction is a top priority in our responsible tubes roadmap and at the heart of our product development,” says Caroline Hughes, Global Marketing & Communication Manager Albéa Tubes. “But that does not mean that we compromise on desirability, design or functionality. On the contrary, we are working even harder on these aspects to offer solutions that meet brands’ and users’ needs for brands recognition, ease of use and, of course, durability.

As legislation increasingly pushes for reduced material consumption, Albéa Tubes’ innovative EcoTop range contributes to plastic and weight reduction in packaging while shaking up the design codes of tubes.
